Karen Cheung, PhD, MPH
Founding Principal, REACH Consulting
Hi, I’m Karen. I founded REACH Consulting to do more of what I love: help people make data-driven decisions to create meaningful, positive change. I want to help people and communities answer the questions that matter to them. And I want to help them use those results to inform their next steps.

As an independent consultant, I provide public health research, evaluation, and analytics support to government agencies, Tribal Entities, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and other private-sector groups. Before starting REACH, I spent almost two decades working in management consulting, healthcare and human services consulting, and research and academic institutions. I’ve honed my inquiry and project management skills throughout the years, having directed many small- and large-scale studies on public health and social policies. Areas I’ve worked on and are passionate about include:

-
social determinants of health
-
health disparities and health inequities
-
access to care and services
-
clinical-community linkages
-
maternal and infant health
-
chronic disease prevention and health promotion
-
Medicaid and Medicare policies
-
Affordable Care Act and general health care reform.
I received my MPH in global health from Yale University and PhD in public policy from the joint program at Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology. Originally from the Bay Area in California, I have lived and worked in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and Seattle. I founded REACH while living in Anchorage, Alaska, Dena’ina EÅ‚nena, the traditional homelands of the Dena’ina Athabascan people. In my spare time, I enjoy calligraphy, cooking, traveling, and exploring the great outdoors.
